December 2010: "I Heard a Bird Sing"
Performed by the Fenton High School Concert Choir
Music and 2nd stanza composed by Bri/akaKakashiFanatic/yours truly!
Based on the poem by Oliver Herford

This is my very first original composition for choir! I'm extremely excited about it! All music came from my head. The words to the first stanza are Mr. Herford's, the words to the second are mine (I wanted to lengthen the piece). Enjoy!! :D

LYRICS:
I heard a bird sing in the dark of December
A magical thing, and sweet to remember
"We are nearer to Spring than we were in September,"
I heard a bird sing in the dark of December

This song I admired in the dark of December
And in me it inspired a hope to remember
"Stay close to the fire 'til the last dying ember,
Until we retire from the dark of December,"
I heard a bird sing in the dark of December.

  • I loved it, it sounds like it could go in a Christmas cd!!

  • This is a really great piece. I'm a 2006 graduate of FHS that came out of the choir program and went into music in college, and you have a great knowledge of compositional techniques at such a young age. I think the soprano part in the second stanza would have been nicer as a solo descant, because some of your original text gets lost amongst the soprano line. Please don't stop composing, you'll only get better with time. Congrats, and Go Bison! Blue & Orange forever =)

  • WOW altos are really chesty lol

but bri this is amazing, as I have told you everyday

you must be so proud of yourself :)

  • Omg Bri, I can't stop listening to this song!! *_* it's so awesome!! *hug*
