@Alldayeveryday404 Not exactly. "No Country" was about how violence takes over. That is related to moral degradation but it's not the idea behind "Oil!". They may be connected by an idea (and they both have a western "space" and pace), but "Oil!" was showing the eventual tearing down of the psyche. "No Country" was about how violence comes out of nowhere. "Oil!" was about a charming facade breaking down . . . and capitalism ofcourse.
P.S. One reason NCFOM loses. Cormac McCarthy.

There WILL be Blood. Pretty much the precursor and the preface for the 20th century. Bloodiest century in human history, by a long shot.

@magicmike323 what people forget is that theyre basically the same movie. they talk about how the moral integrity of american life has degraded and evil wins lol

@Alldayeveryday404 Or the humble beginnings of human greed. I don't think PTA's message was specifically political, but it's about interpretation I suppose.

There Will Be Blood, a harking contextual allegory of our own economic trifles as well as a twisted portrait of the current American oil industry, serves almost as a documentary on the humble beginnings of American greed. It is a kind of demonic origin tale for the state of contemporary American political culture, with narrow-minded religious fervor and bald-faced capitalistic excesses forming two sides of the same tarnished coin, a sort of dark symphony about the genesis of American capitalism.

@rodofiux I believe that's called an eargasm nowadays

@tropicalpimp it's not about being 'polished', it's about musical sensibilities and relevance to their times, of which all the artists you named are completely different. you're talking about something completely subjective. it's like comparing a wank guitarist like joe satriani to.. i don't know, jose gonzales? technically and emotionally hugely different musicians. but keep plugging your opinions on the internet, cause one day, someone out there, might give a shit, you never know.

Both "There Will Be Blood" and "No Country for Old Men" are on my list of top five favorite movies of the past decade. They're both great!

Discovering Radiohead and Jonny Greenwood was the best thing that happened to me.
