  • Why did you equip your Sonex like a Space Shuttle?

  • This is not a "normal" and private Sonex. This is a research platform built by Air Force Institute of Technology to the examine concentration of greenhouse gases, air dustiness (e.g. volcanic ash) and other scientific issues (look under wing sensors). The cost of the installed on-board research equipment is often larger than the whole airplane. My Institute decided to install the advanced avionics for the safety of explorations. Our Sonex have second name: "Flying Laboratory".

  • Congratulations ! Whats in the wing packs ? Fuel ?

    Hi, Thomas,

No, this containers it's no fuel tank. Packs under wings contain the sensors of the concentration of greenhouse gases and the dirts of the air e.g. heavy metals, dusts, soot (carbon black) etc.

  • the plane spins, it sure seems like the plane wants to fly flat and level-which is a good thing- sure wish i had the money to buy a kit-tough-stout little airplane

thanks to everyone who uploads vids of the plane

  • They look like rocket pods to me.
