In October of 1993, while playing in a softball game with his Phi Delt
brothers against archrival Sigma Nu, Eric Westacott attempted to stretch a triple into a homerun. His headfirst slide resulted in a broken neck, rendering Eric a C4-C5 complete quadriplegic. Eric spent several weeks in the hospital undergoing spinal fusion surgeries and the next several months performing intense physical therapy.
Following a six-month recuperation at his home in St. Louis,Missouri, Eric returned to Southwest Missouri State University (now Missouri State University) where he was inducted into the Student Involvement Hall of Fame and in December 1995 he graduated with a B.S. in biology.
In August 1998, Eric entered St. Louis University School of Law. He
graduated in May 2001 and practiced law with a St. Louis based law firm for six years. He focused on defense of personal injury, products liability, and premises liability. Today, Eric is co-owner, COO, and General Counsel of invision, a document management company that he and a business partner launched in May 2007. In his spare time, Eric also serves as President of the Eric Westacott Foundation, President of the board for Adventures on Wheels, board member of Next Steps Foundation, and a member of the University of Missouris Spinal Cord Injury Research Advisory Board.
