First movement of AC16 218 under its own steam since 1969. The ex Queensland Railways 2-8-2 was built by Baldwin in 1943. It did a trial run on Wednesday 3rd September 2008 on the Zig Zag Railway just west of Sydney, Australia. The locomotive is part of the United States Army Transportation Corps S118 Class and were affectionately known as "Yanks" in Australia.

  • Perhaps someone could be so kind as to close the cylinder cocks for a few moments so that we may see what she looks like.

  • Perhaps not. These are the first two movements in steam in nearly 40 years. Last thing you want is closed cylinder cocks.

  • I think you'll find that 218 has been out for a month or two now, and not because of the compressor, the springs were being sent away for re-conditioning and the driving wheels were being machined, it is due back in service some time within the next 2 weeks.

  • 218A is currently out of service with a bad air compressor and is currently being repaired

  • Nothing wrong with it! Your obviously jsut a greenie and a wanker. Piss off! :-(

  • Why say that mate seriously? It's a steam engine, duh!

  • Depends on what you mean by AC16 because there are others of the same class working in the US. That tender is actually an old C16 tender which QR put on in the late 50's (or there abouts). 221A has a newly built tender that is supposed to resemble an original tender from the outside (although altered on the inside to a similar design to the welded C17 tender).

  • well, that is the only other surviving AC16 and it is great to see her welland truely on her way back to operation. are my eyes deceiving me or is that an original tender? that provides a great contrast to No.221A with her more modern tender, both look great.

  • i was going 2 see it in steam 4 the first time on wednesday but i sped in mep's test

  • good show, i send my congrats to the boys at zig zag for a job well done.

  • It certainly does. I can only hope that you receive proper treatment for your Asperger's.
