Couchsurfing is safer in my book, because you take more precautions. Airbnb try to pretend you are guaranteed a good experience, which is not true (on any internet meetup).

Search for "A travelers lost faith" for a scary story about how Airbnb went sour.

I feel like couchsurfing is a much better site as far as safety goes. There is so much accountability and no money involved.

i really wanted to use airbnb because it gives a homey feeling and cheaper then hotel but now im not to sure. :( everyone says its great but you could always be that "one" who gets the bad luck....
