La Violetera performed by The Tango Project. This lovely melody appears on the "Scent of a woman" soundtrack (brilliant movie from 1992 with brilliant performance by Al Pacino). La violetera statue, as seen in the beginning and in the end of this video is placed in Madrid, Spain. I picked up various violet flowers to set the proper atmosphere for this gorgeous music - relax & enjoy...

  • Beautiful very moving , last 20 seconds always brings a tear, thanks for posting

  • una...melodia..hermosa...como...para...pasar..esta..resaca...que...me..mata!!!

  • Interesting: there seem to bee two tangos by the name La Violetera. This one, composed by José Padilla Sanchéz (spanish) and another one - sung here on YouTube by Carlos Gardel - composed by Anselmo Aieta (argentinian). In addition to having the same name, these tangos also have identical refrains. Maybe a traditional tune that both composers (on different continents) have used?

  • si tuviera el privilegio de escuchar la ultima cancion de mi vida elegiria esta LA VIOLETERA !!!!

  • Tango Project really delivers the romantic-nostalgic mood of "La Violetera". I just want to mention the fact that "La Violetera" is not a "tango" but "habanera" as written by Maestro Jose Padilla. Also we must credit the two Spanish ladies who made this theme an enduring classic: Raquel Meller, (who recorded it several times starting in the late 1910s inspiring Chaplin to use it in "City Lights") and Sarita Montiel who revived it in her 1958 blockbuster film "La Violetera."

  • I like this song...

    ... a lot. It´s very nostalgic. Thanks

  • This song is probably best known for being used in Chaplin's "City Lights".

Benny Hill (who idolized Chaplin) also used it on his show, notably for the "Boutique Mask Dance", in the episode which first aired on Oct. 28, 1970.

  • C'est splendide!!!

    L♥

  • Madrid , recuerdo Madrid !

  • Lindo,lindo,lindo!!!!
