Back in 1999 CP Rail SD40-2's and Red barns were all over UP's Spokane Sub in Northern Idaho.

  • I have never seen units bounce like that at track speed !

I think its time UP put some money into this line and replace that jointed rail with some CWR,even if its relay off their mainline !!

  • @kuskanook135

The line has since been upgraded with CWR.

  • @funnelfan thanks for the update

  • @vonfinkelstein I figured it was just because the 40's were getting old and not used anymore, kinda like with BNSF and UP.

  • @mafarnz That's because CP has started to use non-tier compliant parts in all SD40-2Fs and some regular SD40-2s, meaning they are relegated to Canada due to draconian emissions legislation in the US.

  • I have a video from that exact same spot as 1:33! I still see lots of CP power on the line, but sadly no more red barns. Awesome video!

  • Awesome video, solid sets of SD40's in action red reminds me of my home town on the CP Rail transcon mainline in the 80's.

  • Very nice Ted!
