Here is the next painting in my wolf series. There were two things that I wanted to accomplish in this painting... I wanted to capture the geometric patterns in the wolf's wet fur and I wanted to contrast that with the soft colors of the intense eye. The original painting and prints of this painting are currently for sale in my ebay store: http://stores.ebay.com/Roby-Baers-Fine-Art-And-Prints

  • i was wondering why do you put greens and blues in the eyes as well as the bright orange in the fur?

  • @LenkaMally Hello! I use all of these different colors because that is what I see. That is how I achieve the color that I'm looking for. You can't always get the color you want right from the pencil so I use other colors in a blending application using one to blend with the next and so on. The bright orange when blended with the black and yellow turns out just the color that the wet fur is. Same thing witht he eye color. His eye's have all of those colors and when blended together works :)) Roby

  • @satuxd I use CarbOthello pastel pencils.

  • What pencils do you use?

  • @jamieeliseconnor Hello! The key to doing fur is knowing the pattern that the hair grows in. You then apply layer after layer like shingles on a roof to achieve real looking fur. It's hard to explain about what colors to use, that all depends on the color of the wolf you're doing. You could make a "suggestion" of hair until you get more proficient at it. It's all about practice. :)))) Good luck and have fun!

  • this is amazing. Just wondering how do you get the texture for the fur right. The detail is fantastic and I need some help, because I'm trying to draw a wolf foran arts class at school, but I'm not sure how to do it. cause the different colours and tones used make it a little difficult for me to get around. thanks
