The Synology Diskstation DS211 is a superb NAS server in its own right. Team is up with the Y-Cam Knight S IP Network Video Camera and you have an unbeatable combination.

  • Great video and review. Would you recommend this Y-Cam in a baby room if you already have a synology? I'm wondering how the lag is on live viewing from the web or iphone app.

  • @joshbenson06 sounds good.

  • Does it support time machine?

  • @slannne Yes.

  • Does it work outside?

  • @schaeffer1987 If you add on a Y-Cam Shell then yes.

  • OK so let me understand this, you connect the DS to your router and your YCam to the same router and then the PC controll the DS via the router so yoru PC no lonegr needs to be on? What if I wanted to have BT on, do you install the softwareon the DS or how?

  • @Milupa5 i would feel, the camera is wireless, the burglar would steal the camera/damage it. He wont bother to find out where the NAS is. haha!

  • Amazing review! i would like to ask you about the compatibility with mac Lion and Time Machine. I heard there are some issues with DSM 3.2 ver.

  • very nice review. I'm sold on both products :)

  • Can you please make a video on how to optimally setup your iTunes with diskstation manager

  • If you're willing to leave a Mac on with the ycam (or other network camera), I'd thoroughly recommend SecuritySpy. One of the main advantages is much better control of motion detection, crucial if camera looks outside otherwise you'll start recording with every gust of wind when leaves move. I have 4 cameras recording via a Mac Mini to a Synology DS411j. I have no affiliation with Security Spy.

  • My problem/question: What if the burgler takes my NAS too? Is there an option to upload those recordings to an FTP automatically? On the fly?
