It seems to be a rare drop, but if you get his mandibles you can get the sand gun by taking those, some topaz and illegal parts. The gun saleseman sells that when there is no moon. With that gun you can fire sand blocks in your inventory.
Personally I think you are better off collecting the antlions sand and making loads o water bottles. Good for minor healing and potions. Seeing as dayflower is so common, specifically regenerative potions.
