I had forgotten how completely I adore this song... It's been a long time! I wore out my tape of Glass Houses, particularly this song... Thank you for posting this!

I listened to beethoves 7th and there was a post on there saying 'the music to this song is a cabon copy of the 1st movement, and thus Billy Joel owes his royalties to Beethoven.' And I have to admit I am inclined to agree. Thought I'd let you know this end (both bases covered, so to speak)!

This song is phenomenal and my favorite of his. The words are the best! This is so far beyond the Beatles whom I love. This song has more meaning in one line than the whole song of For No One and Yes It Is. Who cares if it's Beethoven. He would have stolen this from Billy but he couldn't write lyrics.

This song is sooo Paul McCartney! Now it happens that I LOVE the music of Billy, Paul, the Beatles :-) Such an amazing song.

Yes, Beethoven, who is dead, and who's music is public domain.

All of Beethoven's works are in the public domain and thereby no longer under copyright. Any artist may use public domain works as they please, with or without credit legally

Billy Joel said in a 2008 interview on the nationally-syndicated Rockline radio show that this song was modeled after The Beatles song "Yes It Is."

he took another beethoven piece for This Night and gave credit for it so I don't see why he wouldn't do it for this song, maybe he gives credit for it in the cd. Also don't royalties expire after so many years?
