螳螂拳 - 蘇紀正 - 小虎燕

Xiao Hu Yan (Little Tiger Swallow) as performed by Su Chicheng. XHY is an intermediate mantis form, but is also practiced in some Korean styles under the name So Ho Yun. this version is more of a northern shaolin variation.

  • this is Korean?? And a Mantis form??

  • @Nhia89 this version is NOT the Korean "So Ho Yun" version.

  • is this form the same as So Rim Jang Kwon?

  • Tallyall,

I do not profess to know the Tang Soo Do hyung "So Rim Jang Kwon" but it is my understanding that this is NOT the form. Namely, the techniques in this form do not fit the written description of So Rim Jang Kwon in Hwang Kee's book "Soo Bahk Do Dae Kham."

This form is referred to in Korean styles as "So Ho Yun" and is practiced by some in Tang Soo Do who have recieved it through a sippalgi lineage. I've heard that CS Kim often demonstrates this form.

  • This is one of the very few kung fu forms vids on youtube that actually looks like kung fu, so to speak.

Great to see someone actually doing the snap kicks clean and at the correct (waist) height. The stances are normal too. These days so many people do the modern wushu influenced stances.

    Solid vid!

  • i agree with bobsacca - this is an authentic and artfully done set. the western "kung fu sifus" that post videos on youtube are a joke and a disgrace to the chinese martial arts. its nice to see the real thing in this video. youtube has become a dumping ground for fakey counterfeit kung fu videos which is a shame.

  • Sorry Kidda I can understand your pride, but I do not understand your ignorance - TKD, TSD Karate are all very basic Kung Fu Wu Shu - I'm not saying good or bad..

Impression though, is the best form of flattery.

I have also heard it claimed by some, that TKD brought circular kicks ...how much Kung Fu Wu Shu do you know? I know most styles of K F W S have circular kicks! Keep practisng - Peace.

  • @fengpo Taekwondo was the consolidation of the kwan schools to develop a Korean system of marital arts which did not practice any Japanese or Chinese hyung. All of their forms were invented in the 1960s. Tang Soo Do is the art taught and practiced in Korea before the unification. It is essentially Shotokan karate and two kung fu forms: So Rim Jang Kwon and So Ho Yun. Most TSD schools only do the Shotokan forms now. Taekwondo was a political response to the WWII occupation of Korea.

  • Korean???

Taekwondo comes from Tang Soo Do...Tang Soo Do - Hand of Tang (Tang Dynasty) Chinese.- All Chinese here Fellas!

Chinese Arts learned by Japanese Students learned by Korean students.

    Peace Fengpo

  • looks like the Northern Sil Lum sets I Did as a teen

  • i love it!

  • Not the kind of Mantis that I do.

But agil and exact movements with an high degree of body control, I like it.
