A discussion with Occupy Seattle, Derrick Jensen, and Lierre Keith. December 3, 2011 7pm.

We have been too kind to those who are destroying the planet.
We have been inexcusably, unforgivably, insanely kind.

-- Derrick Jensen (*1960), www.derrickjensen.org

Deep Green Resistance: Strategy to Save the Planet. A movement is growing based on it that has a plan of action for those ready to fight for this planet-and win. In the Occupy Movement, the focus on financial inequality versus the devastation of the earth is a false split. The 1% would have no wealth to steal without exploiting humans AND the land. Learn how we can stop them at:

The task of an activist is not to navigate systems
of oppressive authority with as much integrity as
possible. The task of an activist is to confront and
take down these systems of oppressive authority.

-- Lierre Keith

Dance of World Destruction

In order for us to maintain our way of living, we must...tell lies
to each other, and especially to ourselves. It is not necessary
that the lies be particularly believable. The lies act as barriers
to truth. These barriers to truth are necessary because without
them many deplorable acts would become impossibilities. Truth must
at all costs be avoided. ... And so we avoid these truths, these
self-evident truths, and continue the dance of world destruction.

-- Derrick Jensen, "A Language Older than Words", 2000

-----------------------------------------------------------------
Psychiatrist R. D. Laing formulated three rules, by which a
pathological family [or society] -one plagued by..severe abuse-
can keep its pathology hidden even from its members themselves:
Rule A: Don't.
Rule A1: Rule A does not exist.
Rule A2: Do not discuss the existence or non-existence
of these rules.
--
If the first rule of a dysfunctional system is "Don't talk about
it," then our primary goal should be to tell the truth, to be as
honest as we can manage to be.
-- David Edwards (author of "Burning all Illusions")

--quoted in Derrick Jensen's "The Culture of Make Believe" 2002

  • Thanks for the great upload! However, the first quote in the description about navigating systems of oppression is misattributed to Derrick, it's actually a quote by Lierre.

But seriously, an excellent upload, thanks so much for capturing this and uploading it :)

  • @greenrevolutionary Thx,fixed that . I do hope it will get some visits. So people will listen and discuss this way.

  • The Myth in Lierre's V-myth book is the myth of eliminating all agriculture. It's either a myth or a very dangerous idea that needs to be taken with deadly seriousness: There are roughly 6 billion humans on the planet. How many humans could the planet support without agriculture? How are we getting from 6 billion to under 1 billion? Mass murder, starvation, forced sterilization? What did we learn from the last century about extremist ideologues who didn't value human life?

  • Humans, non humans, and the land are intricately tied in ways that are not always immediately clear.Lierre Keith goes into this in her book Vegetarian Myth, an excerpt is here:

The bottom line is that the natural world is primary, and we could learn to live with that natural world if we weren't so bent on turning her into 'resources' to be consumed. To stop the savagery we must stand with life and against this culture that is devouring any chance we have for a future.

  • @DeepGreenResistance ummmm AND exploiting/enslaving and torturing non-human animals, whose exploitation in turn completely depletes resources and causes disease and starvation for humans? Their treatment and abuse is a critical component of the equation indeed. You are just spinning your wheels otherwise

  • Deep Green Resistance (DGR) is a movement based on the book, co-authored by Derrick Jensen, called Deep Green Resistance: Strategy to Save the Planet. DGR has a plan of action for anyone ready to fight for this planet-and win. In the Occupy Movement, the focus on financial inequality versus the devastation of the earth is a false split. The 1% would have no wealth to steal without exploiting humans AND exploiting the land. Now this war has two sides. Learn more at:
