I also think a good amount of compression after the fuzz/delay/verb chain
can help achieving that "about-to-colapse" sound.

he really is just trying to be kevin shields. i read an interview and he said it wasnt the effects it was the playing style. but hes lying it is the effects its just reverse reverb.
