A Dream Come True ~ Ch. 5

Fighting for a dream can be one of the toughest things to do. There are so many things that threaten to ruin everything. But giving up can't be an option. Where will giving up take you? Absolutely nowhere.

"NO! A million times no! No, no, no, no, NO!"
"Joseph, calm down," my mother said. "She's a lovely girl. Why not?"
"Oh, I don't know. Maybe because... I've never even seen her!"
My dad spoke up. "That doesn't matter. Now, you will do this. Do you understand?"
"No! I'm not doing this! You can't make me!"
"We can, Joseph, and we will!"
"Are you guys blind?! Can't you see that I don't want to marry some chick that I don't love? You guys don't even care about how I feel! You think you can just run my life like that?! Well, you can't!" I ran straight to my room without looking back.

I slammed the door and leaned on it. I hated my life. This totally sucked. I walked over to my window and looked out. The sun not too far from setting. Why does this stuff happen to me? I wish I could just give up being a prince. What I would do for that... My parents had told me that they were making me marry a girl they had met.

I took Abigail's advice and started explaining why I couldn't do that but it was going through one ear and coming out the other! They just wouldn't listen. It was like I hadn't even said anything. They pissed me off so much. I needed to talk to someone but who? I really wanted to see Abigail but I didn't know where she lived so that was no help.

I had to figure out a way to get through to them. There was a knock on my door. "Joseph, open up." It was my dad.
I reluctantly got up and opened the door to a very angry father. "What?"
"What was that, Joseph? You want to explain to me why you accused us of not caring about how you feel?"
"Easy. You don't. You never have."
"Of course we do, Joseph. That's why we're trying to find you a bride."
"Maybe I don't want a bride! You ever think of that?!" I slammed the door right in his face. He started knocking on it, ordering me to open it. I had to get away. Just for a while.

I changed back into 'normal' clothes and climbed out my window and down the vines. I ran off towards the Woodland Forest. I didn't know why I was going there but it would give me time to think. As soon as I entered, I felt the weight of the world land on my shoulders.

I knew I would become King soon and that I would need a queen but why these girls? Why couldn't they let me choose for myself? I sat down on a tree trunk. I put my head in my hands and sighed. There had to be a way to fix this. Somehow. My mind drifted to Abigail for some unknown reason. I guess I really liked her.

She seemed great. And since she was my dream girl, quite literally, maybe she was the one. But with my parents, what was the point in getting my hopes up? I stayed in the forest for a long time before finally heading back to the castle. I climbed back in my room and laid down in bed.

I stared at my ceiling and thought of tomorrow. I was gonna meet Abigail again. I smiled at the thought and fell asleep with a huge smile plastered on my face.

~~ The Next Day ~~
Another day. The only thing I looked forward to was seeing Abigail again. I made it through an awkward breakfast and day with my parents. Before leaving, I stuffed a picnic basket with some food from the kitchen and climbed out of my window. I walked into Woodland Forest and looked around for Abigail.

It didn't take me long to find her since she was wearing a light blue dress that contrasted against everything else. She was leaning against a tree but facing the other way. I grabbed her hand and she gasped and turned around. "Oh, it's you Joe."
I laughed. "Were you expecting someone else?"
"No, just you." She gave me a dazzling smile.
"Alright, then let's go. I want to take you somewhere."
