Thank you, Sigrid, for this video. Your theory about trauma possibly initiating Dercum's seems that it would make sense, because it has been known to be caused by high levels of cortisol, and cortisol is secreted by the adrenal glands in response to stress. Prolonged stress means prolonged exposure to corticosteroids. Predisone, therefore, can make Dercum's worse (while alleviating some of the pain).
@dercumfibrogirl I have Dercum's from having Cushing's Disease for a very long time - the prolonged exposure to corticosteroids (like prednisone). I've found a new fibromyalgia drug called Savella to be VERY helpful in managing pain and suppressing appetite. It has allowed me to start weaning off prednisone (which, if you've been on it a long time, should be done over the course of a year at least). I would take a medical article about it to a doctor you trust.
Thank you Sigrid for sharing. From a fellow DD sister, I believe that all things have an opposite, that means the uncureable has a cure, the unknown has an explanation. It will be up to those who suffer with DD to help and support, as well as educate others on DD. Best of blessings, Joyce ;)
I've been diagnosed with fibromyalgia and for the last 6 months I've been suffering from painful lumps everywhere. The Dr thought it was erythema nodosum and prescribed me steroids and they don't go away. I'm just getting worse and gaining weight! I stumbled on to Dercum's disease when researching my pain etc. I believe 100% that I have Dercums How do you suggest telling my Dr about this? I know Dr.s don't want the patients to know more about a subject than they do, but I really need help!
I also went through a bout of extreme trauma when the lipomas spread like wild fire.

We believe mine was set in motion from high doses of Prednisone (60 to 80 mgs daily).
