University lawyer Lynn Harnden delivered opening statements in the wrongful dismissal grievance of tenured professor, Denis Rancourt, on October 31.
During his opening statements, Harnden said: "From the university perspective, it's not about pedagogy, nor is it about academic freedom."
Rather, Harnden claimed that Rancourt "displayed an intense hunger for personal attention," and that the professor's teaching practices were motivated by pure "selfishness." @oqpo1234 I'm not sure who you are - you have me at a disadvantage. Our position is that the entire proceedings should be open to recording as the matter is one of public interest and that the prevention of that is being done in this case to protect the university from some outrageous claims and behaviour. The reactions by the individuals was also hostile and physical were a simple "no comment" or "as you can understand I'm not in a position..."

Wow. Appalling, and yet fascinating to see how the powerful (in this situation) react to having that power legitimately challenged.
