http://FreeHerbCourse.com This is the beginning of a several part series on cattail. Rosalee and Xavier take you to the marshes to discover the many ways you can use this plant throughout the seasons. In this first video Xavier shows you how to correctly identify cattail and how to harvest it safely. He will then show you how to harvest the edible cattail shoots.

  • @charronfamilyconnect when the head of the cattails pollen can be shaken loose it can be collected and used as flour. cut a hole in a milk jug big enough for the head and shake

  • So, are ANY parts of the cattail toxic at any times of the year? Could you, hypothetically, eat the whole plant?

  • Hi there, thanks for the video! I am trying to settle a debate! I was told that you can make flour from the roots of cattail, and that it contains Gluten. But another so called expert told me that the root contains Rhizome but no gluten. Would you happen to know about the validity of this. I just want to know if I can make cakes with the flour from the cattail root on its own without combining with other flours due to the claim that gluten is not contained in the root flour. You know about this?

  • I could listen to you say 'foamy' all day.

  • I would imagine you really have to be careful about cottonmouth snakes around those cattails.

  • heh. i got giardia from eating a cattail shoot *facepalm* i stinky
