Sierra Leone and Liberia are areas recovering from devastating civil wars. Sea turtle scientist Dr. Manjula Tiwari, based in San Diego, CA., and the non-profit Ocean Ecology Network (www.oceanecology.org) is working closely with the local communities as well as the Conservation Society of Sierra Leone (www.http://world-turtle-trust.org/project08.html) and The Save My Future Foundation (www.samfu.org) in Liberia - to conserve sea turtles in these countries. Supporting the needs of the local beach communities are important aspects for conserving sea turtle populations and other endangered species.
