This function-based activity combines role playing with an information gap format. Half the students are landlords, and the other half are prospective renters. The students must gather information about apartments to rent.

  • these videos are effectively helpful for English teacher to second language learner. It engage the learners with their target context where they find English authentically and the can relate easily.

  • how can i do a lead-in for this activity??

  • We've started a TEFL social network where we are trying to build a community of TEFL teachers around the world to meet and share experiences and tips. If anyone is interested take a look at tefl-me.com. It covers lots of areas and has a blog, forum groups individual profiles and a map to indicate your location in the world to help you meet other TEFL teacher when you are on the other side of the world. We have a group relating to Korea including discussions about first timers in korea & culture.

  • The overall idea for the lesson is fine. But..

Why did you prescribe them the lg they should use? They were reading from the handouts.

They could have generated the necessary lg in two groups (landlords and tenant)[peer teaching] and being equiped with some necessary means, handle the task

After the task cycle you could have done the language analysis and focus on some useful phrases and at the end practise those somehow or even ask them to do a similar task

That would be a great TBL lesson

  • Good lesson, also fun when the students sit back to back to make it (slightly) more realistic.

  • I loved this video, I'm gonna try the exercise out on my students!
