Strange Flowers 2 (The art of Séraphine Louis)

Séraphine Louis, known as "Séraphine de Senlis" ("Séraphine of Senlis") (1864-1942), was a French painter in the naïve style. Self-taught, she was inspired by her religious faith and by stained-glass church windows and other religious art. The intensity of her images, both in color and in replicative designs, are sometimes interpreted as a reflection of her own psyche, walking a tightrope between ecstasy and mental illness.

Séraphine Louis, detta de Senlins (Arsy, 2 settembre 1864-Clermont, 11 dicembre 1942) è stata una pittrice naïf francese.
Nata da una famiglia di pastori e domestici, il suo talento fu scoperto nel 1912 dal collezionista d'arte Wilhelm Uhde. Mentre risiedeva nella città dove viveva la pittrice, Senlis (Oise), Uhde vide una natura morta raffigurante mele nella casa dei vicini e rimase esterrefatto nel sapere che Louis, la sua donna delle pulizie, fosse un'artista. Con il patrocinio di Uhde, Louis si impose come artista naïve del suo tempo.
I lavori di Séraphine sono costituiti prevalentemente da arrangiamenti floreali riccamente fantasiosi. La sua carriera fu relativamente breve. Nel 1930, tre anni dopo la prima esibizione, Uhde smise di comprare i suoi dipinti a causa della Grande Depressione francese. Séraphine fu ammessa nel reparto psichiatrico dell' ospedale di Clermont de l'Oise e, seppur Uhde riferì la sua morte come avvenuta nel 1934, effettivamente ella visse in ospedale fino al 1942 continuando a dipingere.

@almacattleya E' bello sapere che a volte la "meritocrazia" esiste...anche se bisogna ammettere che nell'arte (qualunque forma essa assuma) il giudizio è spesso "pericoloso"...tutto è troppo legato all'emozione e quindi altamente soggettivo... ma dopotutto siamo esseri giudicanti... è la nostra natura ahah!! I miei rispetti.

@almacattleya Ho appena visto il film...Yolande M. è strepitosa a dir poco. Interpretazione superba della follia, del misticismo e della visionaria creatività di Séraphine.

La "follia" e l'estro artistico sono molto spesso vasi comunicanti...si sovrappongono, confondono e perdono l'una dentro l'altro in un continuo evolversi dell'anima che li contiene. Chi è veramente folle?...e chi sano? E' Lei la matta o sono piuttosto gli altri ad essere ciechi di fronte a tanta "ingenua" complessità?

hallo, ich habe diesen Film gestern 14.7.2011 auf dem WDR gesehen. Er hat mich sehr beeindruckt. Ihre Bilder hat sie medial empfangen. Wie das so in dieser Zeit war und es auch heute noch so ist, werden diese Menschen als krank bezeichnet. Leider.........sie haben diese Gabe doch von Gott und durch Gott erhalten. Jeder Mensch sollte anfangen diese Energien zu akzeptieren. Denn ohne diese können wir nicht leben.

Diese Bilder sind wunderschön und heilen unsere Seele !!
