Music is an important part of the healing environment, facilitating relaxation and pain management. It can also help young children who must spend time away from home and school settings to meet developmental milestones as part of their cognitive development.

For Becky ickes, music therapist for Cardon Childrens' Medical Center, helping young patients to just "be kids" is top priority.

She talks about her role in patient care, and why music can empower children to cope with medical challenges, to participate in their treatment, and help them to heal.

  • Really nice video - I like the way you talk about various aspects of the client's program goals and relate music therapy to these goals. It's very important for people to feel comfortable in a hospital environment, which can produce anxiety for many. Music, and music therapy in particular helps to create positive associations for people and works on many levels to help improve quality of life for persons in hospital settings. Thank you for posting this.
