This song is another favourite written and released by Sting in 1993 on the album "Ten Summoner's Tales".
Although this piece again has a reiterative melody it's simplicity and brevity is it's beauty. My favourite ever version of the song is however the version by Eva Cassidy. This version was not released until after her death in 1998.
"Fields of Gold" reached #23 in the USA. Sting wrote "Fields of Gold" after he bought a house near a barley field.
A timeless classic the lyrics sum the piece up the best:
"You'll remember me when the west wind moves
Upon the fields of barley.
You'll forget the sun in his jealous sky,
As we walk in the fields of gold
So she took her love
For to gaze awhile,
Upon the fields of barley.
In his arms she fell as her hair came down,
Among the fields of gold.
Will you stay with me, will you be my love
Among the fields of barley.
We'll forget the sun in his jealous sky,
As we lie in the fields of gold."
