  • Hi Whitney, Good job on the lesson. My only suggestion would be to slow down the sewing part so you could follow along easier. I liked the fact that you made it look so easy:)

  • @SnowRabbit16 Thanks, glad you liked the tips. I speed up the sewing part because this particular video is about patterns in general, not really the one I was working on. If I had been doing a partern walk-through for a specific pattern then the footage would have been slower and more detailed.

  • I use the basic easy patterns, though it gets me sad when I see a really cool pattern I want, but its labled advanced, and I'm like I won't risk it.

  • @HouseofYarally Once you've done a few patterns and are confident with them then go for it! Try an advanced one :)

  • I LOVE this pattern! I want to sew a dress to wear as my reception dress for my wedding, and I want to make this skirt coupled with the top of an "Infinity dress" as the dress! I think it'll be soooooo adorable!!

  • @ThoroughlyModernMLE That sounds really cool! Let me know how it turns out :)

  • I love you videos and tips so much. I'm a beginner at sewing and your videos helped a lot.

  • Sheets are an excellent source of fabric. Try curtains for a jacket!

  • Very good tute Whitney.

    I love your sewing machine.

    Thank you for sharing.

  • I used a pattern for the first time and it was a front, two sides and a back but only did front and back, herpaderp. What you said about jersey is interesting as I was I making a costume last year and was told that as a beginner, I should never use jersey, don't even look at jersey, following their advice I got cotton and it ripped >: and had no costume.

So I really appreciate hearing that beginners can use jersey.

  • Very nice pattern! I never saw a circle skirt with ribbon-tie tucks on the inside like that before. Very original!

  • Hi I decided to try out a easy sewing pattern B4803 Butterick I got everything cut out and now, I can't seen to put the peices together I keep reading the instructions I just don't get it, what do I do HELP!!

  • VERY GOOD!!! from a man who is a rank amateur sewing hobbyhist!!!

  • Ok so I got an old sewing machine from my Nan and am trying to make my girls some costumes for their school, after not having sewn before...ever.

I cannot believe I didn't think to iron the hem before sewing! This will make it much easier, as I kept sewing unevenly with the fabric wanting to return to its flat state :D

    Thanks for sharing!

  • Funny that you mentioned the sheet thing. My roommate's grandmother was actually getting rid of some sheets that had a really cute floral print. She thought I was crazy when I said I wanted to make clothes out of them.
