I have to agree with some of the other comments below. Those fighters back in the day where "fighters" in every sense of the word. Many times Sugar Ray Robinson fought 3 fights in a MONTH. These guys today you can't even get into the ring twice in a year. And they'll want 100's of millions just to do that.

Fighting a bunch of flatfooted boxers. He is a legend, but I think Ali, Leonard, Mayweather would give him the fight of his life or win.

So yes, he is p4p the best of his era, but at welterweight, i'm sure DLH, Trinidad, Whitaker, Pac, Mayweather, Leonard, Hearns, Duran all could have held their own against him. Whether they would win is all up to personal opinion

Not to say he fought a lot of bums. I'm sure they were tough guys, but the fact is not all of his opponents were championesque or hall of fame type fighters. Now grant it, I understand that he had to stay continuely fighting because of his money troubles, but most great fighters are lucky to have 4-5 hall of famers on their list. That's why Ray Leonard is held in such high regard. Although he only fought 40 times, he has names like Duran, Hearns, Hagler, and Benetiz on his resume.

A few things to point out. Although all the praises of SRR are well deserved, everyone talks like it can't be debated. He fought in an era where almost all fighters stood flat footed and always came forward. Even in these highlights, you can see openings for jabs and uppercuts to land on SRR. Another thing people don't recognize and probably don't know, if you look at a list of his opponents, he fought at least 15-20 guys on 3,4,5 separate occasions and alot of them had double digit loses.

Funny thing is, they didn't have the camera technology back then that we have today, so these clips still don't even show his true speed.
