@5arge besides, I-64 is an Interstate, which makes it federal property...the legal issues around trying to do away with it or reroute it would be horrific...if you started court proceedings today, most of us would never live long enough to see it decided one way or the other...and who is going to spring for the cost of what would be a 50 year period of litigation?
stupidest idea ever. seriously think about it. why would you wanna get rid of 64? and re directing traffic wouldnt benefit anything. to be honest traffic isnt all that bad compared to other cities of similar size. not to mention driving past the skyline is beautiful. if anything they should maybe extend 64 from 2 lane to 3 lanes, east of downtown, like the watterson. wasted time and money if something like this happens. bunch of bored idiots who come up with this crap. leave louisville alone
Building more monstrous infrastructure to accommodate individuals in automobiles will soon be as embarrassing as people driving Hummers. Driving is continuing to decline nationwide, even as gas prices ease. So, what would $4 billion in public transit look like? That's something Louisville and Southern Indiana could actually use.
This video was made just to show what it would look like going west from the junction.
The City of Louisville is cut off from the Ohio River because of the massive concrete edifice that is I-64. The view of the river from someone in downtown Louisville is more important than the view of the city from a car going over I-64.
Removing this section of I-64 will reconnect the community with the river, property values near the river will raise in value, and the community will be revitalized.

I think our city is beautiful! Why would anyone want to 86/64 so it could not be seen? Am I missing something?
