honestly, if they had stuck more true to the book and worked on a lot of things like the acting, filmmaking, etc, then i may have really liked it and the new one might not have been made. but they didn't, and thus i think it's pretty pathetic. i'm glad the Coen's readapted the book. i also wish people would read it and see why they did so they would stop all their complaining.
It is not a remake, as both films are based on a novel. The Coen's 2010 version is widely purportedly to be more accurate and faithfully to the book. I'm certainly not a fan of all Coen Brothers films (I thought 'A Serious Man' was dreadful) but you're wrong on this, True Grit (2010) is far better than the 1969 version in every conceivable way - from acting, to casting, to directing, to cinematography. Even Matt Damon surprised me as being competent, and Bridges/Steinfeld were superb.
@Dajuro i honestly disagree with everything you said. this had bad acting, john wayne was just john wayne, and glenn campbell and kim darby were terrible in their roles. the new one had better acting, jeff bridges was his own character, and matt damon and hailee steinfeld (however her name is spelled) were more up to the role
@GEGO1916 God knows how that happened. This was his worst movie, it would have made more sense if he had gotten an award for one of his World War 2 movies.
@ryanmacdaddy1000 Who complains?

@Dajuro in this movie, I can honestly say that this is John Wayne's worst job of acting in his career of already mediocre acting.
