The story of three Philadelphia brothers in jazz: Percy, Jimmy and Albert "Tootie" Heath. They have played or recorded with every great jazz musician from the 1950's to present, including Charlie Parker, John Coltrane, Thelonious Monk and Miles Davis. They have survived drugs, jail and discrimination to thrive as jazz musicians and educators.

I used to go to Percy Heaths home when I was a kid. I was friends with his son, and we still keep in touch.

    Sorry you don't.

  • ....and you're a USED douche bag

  • @cecisota12 I heard him yesterday and he was hilarious! We had eyecontact through the concert and afterwords he walked up to me and we talked. I told him "You are amazing!" and he said "No, you are!" A really great and funny man!

  • Tootie Heath is a wacky old man. And James is just old!!!!

  • aww its jeb patton! he was at jazz camp with me and tootie!

they always had little jokes, like jeb would be trying to teach about kind of blue and have a bunch of slides, and tootie would make a little comment like "oh there's fatass johnny! [coltrane, of course...]" or "thats cannonball when he woke up in the morning and stuck his finger in an electrical socket. oh wait... its butterball, right, jeb?" and jeb would try not to crack up...

i love tootie. hes really funny and charming and great!

  • their sound is awesome cause its somewhat urban yet jazz love it

  • There are 1000's of Heath Bros. stories. I think what is so interesting is that you can read the the comments on various Heath Brother's videos and see things like one son being someone's bus driver, or one of the Brothers is their Grandma's friend etc etc. These are REAL people that are not only famous, but they have interacted with both "average" and "famous" people day in and day out -and effected many lives.

My story ? Percy Heath took me out for a great day of fishing a decade back. FUN!

  • That is incredible!! Not too many people can say they played with a legend!!! Cool stuff.

  • one of the haeth brother's sons is my bus driver...LOL
