Art Institute of Chicago

The Art Institute, for its extensive collections of 19th-century French painting (Impressionist works and the work of Claude Monet in particular) and 20th-century European and American painting. Among its best-known works are Georges Seurat's A Sunday Afternoon on La Grand Jatte — 1884 (1884--86), Grant Wood's American Gothic (1930), and Edward Hopper's Nighthawks (1942).

This was very beautiful Ghaile! Once when I was married we went to Chicago, the EX refused to take me to the art museum. Just one of many things I still hold against him :D You have renewed my desire to see it. I salivated as I watched. Wonderful video, encore!

we chicagoans are so lucky to have such an amazing collection here. not enough of us take advantage of it. im pretty sure its free on like tues or thurs. they have an incredible stockpile of other odd pieces too, like medievil swords and armor, along with priceless works of asian art. any chicagoan should really give it a chance!

I will never forget an exhibition of Degas paintings mostly pastels that i saw in the autumn of 1996....the vivid colors the soft pinks and greens are clear in my memory.

@armourmatt78 take my advice and skip their post-modern/contemporary section or walk through it for a good laugh. When I was there about three years ago I saw a pile of candy in a corner, just to give you an idea of a joke.

@damilkman91 i was looking into their masters program and boy is it expensive. i hope you have a money tree, hell i hope you have a grove of money trees. Also, just my opinion, the work coming out of that school isn't impressive and doesn't justify the cost to attend. Good luck anyways on your endeavors.
