These days, I watched again Pride & Prejudice, taking particular attention to the 1980's (not 1979, as I wrote in the opening) version. The first proposal is, for me, the part that defines if you're a good Darcy/Elizabeth. For that reason, I'm putting the three sequences (1980/1995/2005) for a better comparison. But, It would not be complete without the 1940's version... Well, I do not like it much, Pride & Prejudice was turned into a comedy, but it's not bad at all. Greer Garson is a great actress, but just an ordinary Lizzie (*I don't like to see her crying in this sequence, sounds fake*), and I love Laurence Olivier but he is too dandy like as Darcy... But in this scene he's OK, but he touches Lizzie... Well, you can judge by yourself. ^_^

  • @susannah193

    The 1995 version is the closest version. The dialogue is almost word-perfect. =D

  • what;s that???Darcy so emotional??He doesn't show his feelings easily!I mean the true Mr. Darcy is the one in the 1995 version with Colin Firth!He gives the character perfectly!But what's that??And the costums and Lizzy's part, awful!!!

  • i think that when watching this version of Pride and Prejudice, you gotta remember the year! It was 1940; and yeah it ain't faithful to the book, what with over-emotional Darcy and not to mention Lizzy's dress sense but that was Hollywood then, overly lovey dovey' lol;

  • Hi, does anyone happen to know which of the versions is nearest to the book' s original dialog? I have not read the book yet but I would really like to know :)

    Btw, I as well do not like this version at all! Actually, I think that the version of 1995 is the most authentic one (but perhaps that is just because I saw the 95' version first and have a slight crush on Colin Firth^^)

  • Wtf dis version is shit, who in the world would sit down while offering a proposal ? N Lizzy cries? Wtf shes a strong girl, she doesnt cry that easily
