Who is the godfather of surrealism? Is it Andre Breton? or is it Salvador Dali? Andre Breton thought Frida Kahlo was a surrealist but he was wrong, Frida painted what she saw and from her heart. Salvador Dali did not paint from his heart he painted innovative ideas that have never been painted before. Walt Disney commissioned him to do something innovative in cartoons, but his ideology of a cartoon in the 20th century was over whelming even for godfather of caricature! Destino was never showed and until recently in 2000s was shown in public. Surrealism is something or someone? was God a surrealist? he did vision a world of humans and animals surrounded by beautiful things he created, but when evil appeared that vision was no more. A surrealist person forsees a place in time or is it just a dream like SPELLBOUND? Why are we here? Is there such a person as God? does he really exist? Are there such things as UFOs? Is there life after death? IS THERE?

One might ask "how does it happen that there are so many Surrealists in South America?" How, because of the Many Surrealist Exhibitions Breton made such an effort at Consciously Organizing Many Surrealist Exhibitions in South America FOR the Purpose of Spreading Surrealism into South America. That's how it got there... Breton Brought It To South America. Yes, artists worked many hours creating Surrealist works... Breton Created The Movement -Then Worked Harder Than Anyone Spreading it Globally.

This video is a good example of the cause of the misappropriation of Surrealism into modern forms of understanding. Although Breton expelled dali (aka Avida Dollars) for turning Surrealism into an economic form of art, Breton himself was responsible for the co-optation of the movement, however much he would like to believe otherwise.
There is no father or prophet of Surrealism And it has no heir. That is the point ofand is why Eluard cited Lautreamont - poetry should be made by all, not by one

The main precursor to surrealism was Dada which was a movement that referred to themselves as anti-artists. Where art was concerned with portaying meaning the goal of Dada was to make a nihilistic anti-art devoid of any meaning.

Dali was a sell out. He was a commercial artist. newsflash--surrealists are atheists. they do believe; however, in THE MARVELOUS. surrealism has always existed.-- it was only discovered.

It was Breton who also told Frida Kahlo she was a surreal woman herself and paintings where tagged along, when she arrived in Paris she realized he was penny less and decided to stay else where, Though Breton was an amazing person he was also a lier, a big one.

They got rid of Dali not so much for religion but certainly for annoyingly repeating the same forms who by 1925 had became cheap and boring after all.
According to Andre Breton
surrealism (automatic psych ism) derives from Dostoyevsky ,Isidor Ducasse ,Jacques Vases , and Tsjekhov ,but the question is much more complicated and answers taking us back to the amazing 11 century Constantinople writer Ptochoprodromos , and even earlier with Aristophanes .

Andre Breton was the one who really pulled it all together, but surrealism existed before anyone named it.
