The truth on the debate of open immigration.

What's funny to me is that people don't look just at ONE of those people in my video and go "You know, if Disney's father hadn't been allowed in the country there'd be... no Disney Studios. Without the studios there'd be no Buena Vista Films, and there'd be no Disneyworld, and Julie Andrews wouldn't be a star, and animation would probably have been delayed a decade or so, if it would have ever taken off as a viable medium at all, and ... everything I grew up with wouldn't have been, and..." Sure, Walt would have tried (because he was Walt, after all) but he could only have achieved what he achieved in the US. Just one person. Take away Charlie Chaplin and what happens to the golden age of cinema? And where would Science fiction be without Isaac Asimov?
Most of the scientists on the Manhattan project were immigrants as well. What would have happened to us without those brilliant minds?

And yet, how can you even think of denying the minds of the future the opportunity to shine- for no reason, as there is no moral basis for the prohibition of immigration (outside of prohibiting individuals with criminal records and terrorists from entering the country)?

This proves the worth of the individual. If you take away one of them, you suddenly realize that everything that came after them happened because they were there. Without their achievements it would have been that much harder to build up on them--because someone ELSE would have to have done them, and there is no guarantee that you'd find someone capable of doing them because there was only one Walt Disney.

  • Very few Americans are against immigration. Most of us are aware of its benefits and necessity as the video points out. What Americans like I have a problem with is chaotic unrestricted illegal immigration which allows anyone to enter this country at anytime regardless of criminal history, health issues and etc. ORDERLY IMMIGRATION is all we are asking for. Yet some will label me a racist for merely suggesting such a common sense idea.

  • As Binswanger's article on Capitalism magazine puts it very clearly (i suggest you look it up) it is immoral to restrict immigration of individuals - OUTSIDE of criminals and terrorists. If they are non-criminal individuals, you have no right to restrict their entrance into any borders.

  • I wonder then how Binswanger would propose we determine whether one is a criminal or terrorist. Would this not require immigrates to follow some sort of process of discovery, background check, authenticate identity documentation and such. You know and ORDERLY process.

  • Same way you prove you're apt for a job to your employer. Background checks can be run, you just simply can't stop someone from coming into the country if they're innocent.

  • Wow. Good one. As soon as I heard the beginning of Neil Diamond's "America", I knew it was going to be a good montage video, since it's such an inspiring song. To use it in service to arguing why immigration is so important is a perfect fit.

I'm not sure why Morena Baccarin was included, since it seems the rest were chosen because they or their accomplishments were widely known.

As for Ann Coulter, I think we should build a wall around her. And get illegal aliens to do it.

  • Well, the reason I chose Morena was because she is a young actress who is quite promising. Properly cast, I think she'll be able to go quite far.

  • Open immigration is what makes a country really grow when there is no welfare state. When people aren't burdens on each other by virtue of their laziness, then the type of people who come to the U.S. are the people who create and produce wealth.

I wish we would drop the welfare state, open our boarders, and tell those who want something for nothing to go to Europe.

We would have a second industrial revolution.

  • Very good! I'm forwarding this on to all my friends.

  • Open immigration? What will protect us from all those viscous, dangerous opera singers from who knows where? Ever thing about that...mi gatito dulce?

  • Do you think Morena Baccarin would do a good job if she were cast as Dagny Taggart? ;-)

  • Great vid! I'm posting this link to my FB page and emailing it to my friends and family (many of which send me those stupid anti-immigration emails that go round and round.) I just don't understand the ignorance.

  • I just hotted down where in the timeline the cheers began and I simply added a bit of extra footage here and there to make it coincide :)
