We finally got out and test the 12ga wax slugs, made famous by Iraqveteran8888.
Accuracy up close is impressive and damage is brutal. At further ranges (40 yards) you can see how the slug's lack of aerodynamics cause it to drift around. I speculate "long-range" inaccuracies are exacerbated since the round is transitioning from supersonic to subsonic, very quickly.

We actually were very selective at what we brought along to shoot at. Objects with different densities, structures, weights, and thicknesses.

We just used the cheapest bird shot shells we could find, cut off the tops, dumped the shot into HOT melted wax and poured back into the shell. They are easy to make and very cheap. The crayon wax is harder and denser than candle wax we found.

We were very surprised at how much fun these were to shoot. We shot over 75 rounds of these and they functioned remarkably well. The biggest surprise was how powerful they were. I've tried to understand the physics behind these rounds. They do not act like a simple bullet.
After I have done some research I have determined these work like a "granular impact" - in REVERSE.

  • You guys shoot the wierdest sh!t, subbed within 10secs for barbie-destruction.

  • @DieFradde We definitely like to find strange things to shoot, keeps things fun.

  • How do they hold up to long term storage in a magazine tube.

  • @MrTahoe32 I'm sure it is the same as a normal shell. Of course if I was storing my shotgun in the trunk of my car on a hot day, it would be a mess!

  • haha. never thought of using crayons

  • @ballisticsexpert8 I have to think about colors when I shoot in slo-mo. Turns out the crayons work quite well. I believe it is still paraffin wax but they also add talc to make the crayons harder. The crayon wax is harder and more brittle than either candle or canning wax. I don't know if it changes any of the properties of the rounds or makes a significant difference.

  • @GunWebsites Have you tried these things yet? It's like converting your shotgun into a bazooka. Lots of fun.

  • Did... Did he just break a Nokia?

  • You ABSOLUTELY need to do a ballistic gel test with these. I'd be very interested to see what they really do against a "soft" target.

  • Great video. I'm kind of scared of crayons now though. Damn!

  • It looks and behaves like a glaser safety slug for shotguns.

  • @taofledermaus I made a few of these wax slugs out of hot glue. Going to test it tomorrow. Also I made a bunch of other homemade rounds from steel shot, 20mm steel screws, and galvanized steel hooks. Going to do some DAMAGE!

  • now thats how grown men play with barbies
