Towelhead is a 2007 film by Alan Ball based on Alicia Erian's novel of the same name. The film made its world premiere at the Toronto Film Festival on September 8, 2007 under the name Nothing is Private.

Plot:

Towelhead tells the story of a young Arab girl named Jasira (Summer Bishil), who is sent to live with her strict Lebanese father (Peter Macdissi), who lives in a small town in Texas during the first Gulf War. Jasira struggles against her father's lifestyle, and against her racist classmates. • I just finished reading the book, and I'm totally pumped to watch this movie with some friends. The book really surprised me, especially the fact that she didn't wear a hijab, nor was she muslim, yet the hicks next door and at school called her "towelhead"--that's like calling Kim Kardisian, or someone like that, a racial epithet.

Anyway, Lebenon's an awesome country. I hope the US backed army and Hezbollah stop fighting, and I REALLY hope Israel stops occupying its territory.

  • thank you for you opinion !!!

  • Actually, the name was changed *from* "Towelhead" *to* "Nothing is Private." "Towelhead" is the name of the novel the film is based on, written by an Egyptian-American, so it was not meant as an ethnic slur. Unfortunately, in the divided world we live in, irony is dead. So, they had to change the name of the movie.

  • That scene where her father was in the store talking to her about tampons was just gross and stupid. My sister grew up with a single dad and he never said anything to her about it. She had friends the same ages as her from school who would hang out with her and talk about these things.

  • Good film but kinda weird and interesting.

  • not a good film

  • I just finished watching this movie and it's amazing. There are still so many questions going through my head. The end was ehhh, but overall I loved it.

  • I read the book and saw it on HBO. It had a lot of layers (race, sexuality, images in the eyes of Jasira etc.). Great underrated performances from Summer Bishil, Aaron Eckhart, and Toni Colette.

  • Some girls r just sluts but a lot of girls that act the way she did in this movie was because they were sexual abused or taken advantage of when they were younng by an older guy

  • i fucked a girl that looks jus like her she was awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Excellent movie! Maybe the best that was made on this topic. I would show it as educational movie at schools. Not even kidding!

  • this was an amazing movie.

  • lol the father is fucking hilarious.. it's the only reason i watched the movie for. mad funny guy
