So heres a story I never told ya
Bout a boy named Joey Schroeder
It was 1941
The world they thought was over
He was only bout eighteen
Had many searching dreams
But those dreams came crashin' down when he joined the marines
His life was forced to change
Everything all rearranged
Packed all his things got a gun and went to the shooting range
He was shipped to the overseas
Stationed in Hawaii
Succeeding, defeating but its his family that he always needs
He said "Damn that stupid draft,
I just wanna go back
Chill with mom and dad while we put our feet up and laugh"
But reality had defied it
There was really no use in tryin'
Just his new family and his gun is what he had to rely in
But his family joined the effort
And she would be an expert
Making things into war clothes using a dress shirt
She worked in the United States
But that doesn't take the weights
From the honor and glory being American everyday
Factory conversion it's called
So don't be that appalled
The number of jobs that people got and how many were installed
Fords quickly turned into Shermans
Armor that murdered the Germans
Something originally only President predetermines
He had the power to declare
Leaving the families in despair
The thought of losing her only son was something she couldn't bare
Joe oblivious to the fact that
He really could go to combat
Was washed up in his crazy dreams at home was where his head was at
His best friends were out there driving
And at school they would be striving
And he had to do whatever it took just to surviving
December 7 was the day
Kamikazes on the way
Bombing Pearl Harbor had mom wondering if he's okay

His dad worked with soldiers
Along with his many owners
Creating tanks and airplanes inside General Motors
But his son was his on mind
No matter what the time
And at the end of everyday he'd put his head down and cry
He'd heard of the attack
Didn't know if his son came back
If the letter came in the mail he'd chuck down in the trash
At home he would just wait
With nothing new to say
All he could do was bow his head fold his hand and hopefully pray
That Joey would live on
To have a kid of his own
But father's wish was diminishing the days kept racing on
If his son was really dead
Uncountable tears he shed
He would take an Garand and shoot that German back in the head
His anger had mixed with fear
As it came to the next year
No sign of Joey and his faith slowly began to disappear
But then came the mail
His mother began to wail
Without even opening up what the envelope had unveiled
The question finally answered
But luckily it was backward
Their son was fortunately alive without even being captured
But there was some horrid news
Had his dad sing the blues
He wouldn't be home for a while; it wouldn't be soon
Presented with new dangers
Friends would be strangers
At the time being soldiers but they'd be world changers
Joey saw crazy stuff
It was hard it was rough
What's he in Africa for, hasn't he seen enough?
Now its 1943
Invasion in Normandy
American soldiers arriving including Joey
Gripping to his grenade
Unsheathing his blade
Doing whatever it took to survive this stupid raid
Holding on to his cross
Advancing up on across
Thinking about every man thinking bout' every loss
But eventually they'd win
And he'd repent for every sin
With his head held high and keeping up his chin
Came home as a new man
With victory in Japan
With his parents in his sight he dropped his things and just ran
Gave them a huge hug
Expressing his special love
"How was the war Joey?" Answering with a shrug
