whatever, crap phrasing, bad tone and way to much air being pushed through the horn. If she was forty we wouldn't even be having this conversation. This isn't prodigy its mimicry and there is a huge difference between the two.

this is really good!

Good. I've heard hundreds of greats but few this young. Francesco Cafisi was a prodigy, even bringing an orchestra into Birdland to recreate Bird with strings. But for some of us who have collected 100 of Sonny Stitt's 150 sessions, there's not a whole lot left to be said. Bird, Paul, Stitt, Pepper, Woods, Cannonball--and of course Hodges.

I don't get all the hype. I mean, yes, for someone very young to be playing jazz is great. But, they make it like she is a prodigy. The tone is not that great. Sounds like she needs to do more long tones on the horn. Intonation is weak. And, she's not playing much in her intro here. Also, she doesn't seem to have a great sense of where she is in the tune. The phrasing doesn't sound very good. Sorry to say, but that's what I hear....

obviously, she's using a selmer sax... mk 6 or super action..
and because of the tone quality..

she is so out of tune it is totally unacceptable for a professional. I would never pay money to hear something so off key, yet the audience swallows it up. She sounded way better a few years ago. Sounds to me like she doesn't practice anymore.

I don't get it. If not for her age, so over-rated.
Aher parents must be pushing hard.

the tone is dark

Sounds like a really good oboe.
I heard this girl on piano jazz last month and was absolutely blown away before her performance. 20 minutes in I discovered her age and was even more blown away. One to keep your eyes on my friends. Thanks for appreciating jazz.
