Wild Horses at risk in Nevada

So when the Nevada Department of Agriculture announced plans to monitor the largest contiguous herd in the United States with the notion that more than half needed to be removed from the land, we decided to go out and take a closer look.

The Video is focused on the Virginia Range herds which are managed by the Nevada Dept of Ag not the BLM. As far as we are aware.

A seemingly simple solution to this problem would be introducing wolves to areas where there are horses.Humans need to first get past this primal fear of all creatures with canines and claws and realize that they are as much a part of their environment as the animals they prey on.Infact predation is crucial in weening out the best survival traits in herbivore populations as predators tend to target the sick and weak.

As a Paleontologist i support the preservation of these horses as wild species as they are part of the same genus that lived in North America less then 100 centuries ago,so there is a niche for them.However a major problem that humans all to often tend to shun is a lack of predators.If horses are to ever survive without human intervention,there must be predators controlling their population numbers,otherwise they will overpopulate,overgraze the land,and eventually starve to death.

The BLM claims that 1200 horses on the Virginia Range are too many. This is a lie. The truth is that the cattle ranching industry wants the horses off the land and their dumb cows on it.

Where horses are removed by the BLM, ranchers replace them with MANY times more cattle so the range can obviously handle more horses than the BLM says. I suspect the ranchers are bribing politicans and the BLM to get the roundups.

Anything in excess is unhealthy, Horses belong there but too many is no differnet than having too many cattle, too many people, too much traffic ect.. They do need to be managed. Also don't forget that the nevada everybody loves to try and save has been preserved by RANCHERS for years before enviromentalist activism was in place, don't forget the real Enviromentalists, the ranchers
