How much does that ruby cost?

About $500 for the "Ruby #11" version was the last price I saw on it. It's slightly fancier with the diamond stack, Russian-iron boiler, 2-4-2 wheel arrangement with 4-wheel tender than the 0-4-0T version of the Ruby. The 0-4-0 version can be had for @ $380 in ready-to-run form, @ $280 for the kit version.

Live steam does (cost a bit!), in general! The "Ruby #11" version here is one of the nicer versions; but the Shay cost @ 3 times as much! ;)

I am amazed at how much more steam plume the Accucraft Shay has than my Aster Alisan Shay. The Alisan Shay has almost no plume when operating at speed. How long of a run time does your Shay have on average? The Alisan Shay runs about 25 minutes before I refill alcohol while under steam. I know, not a good idea, but it usually is fine. I have had the fuel tubing melt and leak which does create an impressive fire under the loco!

Thanks for your compliments, scudding! :) I typically avearage 20 minutes run time (maybe 25 if I'm lucky, or if the boiler's already hot). Steam-up time from a cold start is usually 8 ~ 12 minutes, depending on outside temperature. With gas firing, I can't refuel with the fire going, but if I refuel immediately after the fuel runs out, I can have steam up again in 5 minutes.

Skip, it's been pretty reliable, has a LOT of run time on it (I've put in new piston rings & re-timed the valves). It's controlled by RC & is pretty much controlling the Ruby's speed as well in the video clip. Slow but POWERFUL! (It's probably doing 80 ~ 90 % of the work in pulling that train). I also run electrics as well, it has insulated drivers (RUBY dosen't!) & will doublehead nicely with a Bachmann Shay. Tom
