Since it was established five years ago, the Lights On
program of the Orange County Council of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul has worked with about 4500 freshly-released inmates each year. Volunteers staff the Lights On RV every night, from about 11 p.m.—earlier if the volunteers can swing it—to 4 a.m. The trailer provides a safe haven in the middle of the night, offering hot coffee, food to stave off hunger pangs, cell phones to call for a ride home, and even donated clothing to ward off
the evening cold.
