With insomnia, nothing is real.

  • Tyler appears 5 times before we actually see him at the airport. :)

  • i personally have never suffered from severe insomnia, but i do find myself sleep deprived on a semi-regular basis due to a hectic lifestyle, and the narrator's explanation of sleep deprivation here is perfect. everything *does* seem far away, and nothing seems real. a copy, of a copy, of a copy...

It sure does, sleep derivation does that. I keep reading about him having DID or Schizophrenia..

He is hallucinating an alter-ego named Tyler Durden. His symptoms represent Dissociative identity disorder, and Schizophrenia. However one with DID and Schizophrenia do not just wake up and cure all their symptoms - making the alter ego go away.

If there is any diagnosis, for him it is chronic insomnia. - which has hallucinations which completely explain him.
