You can identify an American car by being "flat" - wide, long and low. :-) But a few months ago, newspaper wrote there are now more "European" cars in USA...
It should be opened in 2010, but it passes České Středohoří mountains and there are still some ecologists protests, I think the construction was stopped for some time by the court, now it should be u/c again. It's about 17 kms long and there are some tunnels and bridges, so we will see when it will be completed in the end.
I think that that's the case because all of a sudden we had to leave the motorway and we all signs to Prague. At least we saw a bit of the countryside. When will the remaining section be completed?
You probably missed signs to Prague and turned off to Teplice. On Prague route the motorway is still missing on one part and that's why you lost the direction. Currently this part is u/c.
So we continued to travel (I think) south through these very small pathways that were leading straight through villages. Beautiful landscape allthough the weather was quite poor. I have to come like the Czech Republic.. it's full of surprises.
Great!

Ah I see.. then my friend took a wrong turn at Teplice because suddenly there was no motorway and we were in the middle of nowhere.

Yes, that's this motorway - D8, it runs from Dresden via Ore mountains to Prague.
