how do you mean you are not allowed to reload a musket on the ground ? Which period is the 8th Inf. ? I know that 17th-18th century drill doesn't have the musket with the butt on the ground, but in the 19th C. (Napoleonic) we also put the butt of the musket on the ground when we put the cartridge in the barrel...

Hmm, I trying to write a book about a fictional war and the infantry, if you like, use muskets though I am trying to understand how to load the damn things. This video is good but I cannot hear what he says at the beginning before turning the musket around. Bloody wind!
