A real heart-rending clip from a truly great science fiction masterpiece. The rendering of Amazing Grace gives the atmosphere a grim premonition of approaching death, of hopes and dreams dashed for these two people who will never make it. Great acting by Mr. Sutherland and Ms. Adams. Movies like this will never be made these days. Thanks for posting.

@highway234 The pacing of modern films in the 50s, 60s, 70s allowed for contemplation and reflection.

Amazing Grace People. Amazing Grace. Keep your eyes open to what goes on around you. Keep your eyes open.

You should upload the scene of the body snatchers dog!

This movie is still amazing to me. The way the song Amazing Grace is put in a movie in which all hope is dashed is somehow... I don't know how to describe it. Whenever I hear Amazing Grace, especially done by bagpipes, I can't help but think of a man thinking safety was within reach, only to find out it was not so and the woman he loved and tried to save would be gone forever.

@McNugget06 i actually didn't mind the 2003 version that much (it was better than the abel ferrara one, anyway) but yeah, it's nowhere near the 78 one, it's not even as good as the 50s one.

@highway234 Comparing the 2003 version to the 78 version is like comparing dog shit to the Mona Lisa.

Something about Amasing Grace, the Sea and great ships that go hand in hand

@RFKFANTS67 totally, part of what makes this scene so sad, the false hope of the beautiful music, the promise of the ocean and the power of that enormous tanker and thinking they might be on your side.

My brother and I just saw this film. I kind of like it, but he thinks it has slow pacing that teeters it near boredom, and just overall didn't find the film appealing. I don't think it's a masterpiece of anything, but I like it.

@berrypievision2 that's the 70s. for people used to modern movie pacing, movies in the 70s usually feel slow. it was just the style of the time, a lot of movies still modeled themselves after stage plays, which are typically very deliberate and talky.
