It sounds to me that Bernstein can't go any faster than the acoustics of the "hall". imho

The tempo played by Bernstein are right. The meter are in 3/4.

agreed. However, I think the reason for the slower tempo has something to do with the liveliness of the hall in which it was performed.

You are right, davcos: it would be played faster, but the emotions are there. Bernstein does not play this mass like a baroque work (it is baroque: with all this fugues, that Constanze Mozart loved) but like a romantic work. And so, it becomes....more human.

Everything was great, but I'm not sure about the tempo...
Anyway, excellent performance. This mass is incredible.
