From episode 10 of Season 1 of the west wing. One of the best. This clip shows Toby Ziegler and Mrs. Landingham attending the funeral of a Korean War vet who had become homeless.

  • @ J12X, I spent 8 months on a post funeral honor guard while in the Army. The normal saying I would use when presenting the flag to next of kin was, "On behalf of the President of the United States, and the people of a grateful nation, please accept this flag as a token of appreciation for your loved one's honorable, and faithful service."

  • "Toby, does this mean i'll have hundreds of homeless veterens lining up for these funerals?"

    "I can only hope so"

    Beautiful.

  • Wasn't, there an episode where the president,s sec talks about losing her sons in war? Anyone have that clip?

  • This scene never fails to make me tear up. :(

  • You have captured my favorite clip of the entire West Wing collection. I miss this show so much. Nicely done!

  • just finished watching the entire west wing box set for the third time...I need to try and hold off before watching again to make sure I fully enjoy it...driving me nuts though, I'd stick season one on tonight if I wasn't so scared of ruining the best show I've ever seen. Not a bad actor, not a bad episode, not a bad script in the entire collection!

  • Vienna Boys Choir - Little Drummer Boy ^^

  • What makes these scences great is that they appeal to our instinctural feeling of what is right and our emotional reactions when we are saddened

and does it in a way that feels true to principles.

  • *sniffle*

  • @MarylandBear1,

Have you heard the Harry Simeone Chorale version that's available in the account of "terrydmyers". That version is 3:16 long. The photo that's attached to the title looks like a firework shell that's just starting to explode. Maybe any of the Harry Simeone Chorale versions are acceptable.

  • This is the ONLY version of Little Drummer Boy I've ever been able to tolerate.

  • Much as I love this scene, the part that always brings me to tears is when Mrs. Landingham tells Charlie why Christmases are hard for her--her two sons were killed in Viet Nam at Christmas. "They were so young, Charlie. I know they were scared. I believe they needed their mother then." (Not word for word, but that was the thought.) I think of all the young men and women who have died in war, of how scared they must have been, and of all the mothers who grieved for them and I cry.
