This is the movie that really fucked up Rourkes career. He said he worked with a dialect coach for months, then the first day of shooting the producers were telling him to do a completely different accent. He also said he didn't want there to be much violence, that it wasn't in the script, but the producers wanted it to make it more commercial/action/ "Rambo" kind of movie. Mickey said he had a nervous breakdown during the making of this movie.

I like to see the director's cut of this film.

There is a reason why this was so underrated. The main character was supposed to be this specifically ethnic over-the-top hero/anti-hero caught in a giant mess...not unlike Tony Montana in Scarface. The problem was, Rourke played it low-key, which was not a bad acting choice, but it made the movie as a whole lack that extra spark that makes a movie memorable. Which is a shasomeme really because it had a great scrip, direction and supporting cast.BUT soemtimes you need somebody like G.Oldman.
