An OS can be designed to prioritize certain things, but I rather take the 6 seconds it takes to launch over lower usability and flexibility of the device. If you want speed however compare the iPad to the Acer iconia W700 that uses an SSD instead of eMMC like most ARM devices, including the iPad.

The issue about slow app launching rates is pretty much solved by this point. It's become much faster. The mail app opens in 2 seconds for me. I think it may be a couple of reasons. Either Mail is being cached so the more times I open it the better it gets. Or maybe it's an update. Also typing lag has decreased a lot.

i like you dude :)
i get the view of some people, that it just has to flow and work perfectely...
but for me its not really a big deal if i have to wait 5 secons for a app to start.. its not great of course.. but i really dont care too much..
but well, its different for most people, so buy the one you like!^^

That was painfully slow at times. I get that it may be totally usable for you, but compared to competing tablets on the market, there really is a big performance gap.
