Parody of the video "I Am Autism."

I'm autistic: I can speak
My voice is different, not weak
And if you listened you would know my mind's the same
I'm grateful that you don't ignore me
But you cannot speak for me
So let me on your board or change your name

Yes, I am odd
And that difference causes pain
That don't make you God
And it don't make you sane
I'm your equal in my humanity
I am smart
I am sensitive
I'm autistic

I'm autistic, I am real
I can think and I can feel
I'm a lover, I'm a husband, I'm a wife
So please don't hire a muggle
Who can't understand my struggle
To make a horror movie from my life

I'm autistic, please endure me
Even if you cannnot cure me,
Please don't tell me that my life is yours to take
I'm autistic, please support me
It's too late now to abort me
But there's still time for the difference I can make

  • If you thought my feelings were significant, you would not have attacked me for expressing them. Where in your messages to me have you shown that you understand or care about the feelings of those insulted by this video in any way?

Where in the video do you see an indication that people with autism have thoughts or feelings?

Where does it indicate the possibility that we can be anything other than a burden?

Why would you attack me for expressing that I am as much of a person as you?

  • My son is autistic. I am SO TIRED of people treating those with autism like they have a disease. Cure? Cure what? Cure what makes my son special and unique and funny and quirky?

Someone gave the analogy that autism is not a disease, it's like a computer with a different operating system...there is nothing wrong with people who are autistic in my opinion.

  • Very well done! Beautifully stated and well sung. I have 2 autistic children, one high-functioning and the other not. I found the original Autism Speaks video incredibly offensive. I don't see how I can separate "autism" from my children. In my mind, to hate autism is to hate my children. As all parents do, I love my children and want to raise them to become happy, productive members of society. What that actually means is going to vary from person to person, whether autistic or not.

  • Just more neo Nazi eugenics propaganda.

  • @ourfamilyishis,

I like how you cover everything up about saying there is something wrong with us by saying you love your children. I understand being worried of your children not being unable to poop properly and things like that, but just simple things like spinning wheels of a car? Just like andrew, it's like making a racist remark and saying you're not racist because you have a black friend. You're still being racist.

  • @ourfamilyishis Of course I am making up things as I go along, according to you, because that's the way you want to see it.

Go on, accuse me of all sorts of things and say peace at the end. I have seen that trick a hundred times before too, and it's clearly superficial.

You can cry all you want about how much you love your autistic children, but that doesn't excuse you from pushing autistic people around. It's a sloppy equivalent of saying 'I'm not racist, my friend is black'

  • @andrewkilroyable Ahh, figured it out. I just went ahead and blocked you. Go ahead and pretend you are commenting to what I actually wrote when you are actually making up things as you go along. I am sorry you feel such hate in your heart that you want to lie about what others say. I don't have time to listen to lies and made up stories. I am off to love on my two sons with Autism and love on other parents with kids on the spectrum. Peace to you, I hope you find it soon.

  • @andrewkilroyable Actually, I won't shut up. I will continue to defend what I said because you are twisting what I said and being horrible to me in return. Notice the other poster that I talked with understood what I said. I am not lashing out. You are pretending or misunderstanding. I hope it's misunderstanding because this amount of twisting would be a sad thing. I am glad you love people, might want to show it a little. This spewing of hate isn't loving at all. I honor my children daily.

  • @ourfamilyishis Shut up already. Stop trying to twist things around. You're just a typical example of an intolerant parent of children with autism, lashing out at high-functioning autistic people whenever they speak for themselves.

Quit preaching about your superior abilities of love. I love people too. Why don't you actually honour your children, leave and quit attacking us?

  • @andrewkilroyable Why not try reading what I wrote instead of pretending it says something it doesn't. Name calling, lying (which twisting my words is), all very sad. I am not disgusting. No one, at least not me, said the author was subhuman. I just wanted to clear up this disgusting lie. READ THE WORDS. I have two sons with Autism that are the most beautiful people on the face of the planet. I pray, one day, that you understand that depth of love.
