I haven't seen this whole film, but is the entity supposed to be a ghost i.e. the spirit of a dead person, a Biblical demon, or some other kind of evil spirit like the the ones that appear in folklore all over the world?

@Calriec I believe it was a demon It was powerful enough to escape the liquid helium it had been trapped in. At the end of the movie, the post script said that although the attacks had been less frequent and less intense, they still continued. She should have sought a Catholic priest and requested an exorcism. Although man weakened it, God is the only one who can destroy a demon.

@Calriec This is just my own opinion, but I think the entity is a demon. Because of the rapes, the attacks on her son and others, the destruction of the friend's house, the smell, etc. All classic evidence of a demon. Notice the entity being entrapped in the liquid helium still did not destroy it. It did weaken it. I believe only God can destroy a demon.

@Sshelly34213 Don't hate all Christians. Some of us believe in doing good for others without trying to ram our religion down their throats. Some of us take Jesus words to heart. When you do a good deed, keep it to yourself and God will see your good deeds and reward you. If you do good deeds so men can see you, you have your reward. I do not believe in ramming my religion down everyone else's throat. Especially through legislation.
